When a Game Just Lets You Wander
Not every game needs a quest marker. Some of my favorite mobile experiences are the ones that drop you somewhere strange and simply say: go look.
Hollowreach does this beautifully. There's no tutorial nagging you, no glowing arrow. You explore a foggy island, poke at things, and slowly understand it. The lack of hand-holding is the whole point.
This kind of design only works if the world is worth exploring, and atmosphere carries a lot of the weight. Sound, lighting, and small environmental details do the storytelling that dialogue usually handles.
These games ask for patience and reward it. Put on headphones, turn off notifications, and let one of them pull you in. It's a different kind of gaming, quieter and stranger.
